Ateker International Development Organization (AIDO) Network International has launched the second phase of its Drug-Free World Campaign, targeting more than 3 million people across the Teso sub-region through community outreach, school programmes, media campaigns and strategic partnerships.
The campaign was officially launched at Toto Villa Royal Palace in Serere District on 23 June 2026, building on the success of the inaugural campaign, which reached an estimated one million people directly and indirectly.
The 2026 campaign is designed to expand the fight against drug and substance abuse beyond schools and into communities, families and institutions. Activities include school awareness sessions, community dialogues, health outreach programmes, sports engagements, leadership meetings and media sensitisation.
AIDO is implementing the campaign in partnership with organisations and institutions including MTN Uganda, TBS Radio, Rotary Clubs, financial institutions, educational institutions, cultural leaders, Clinison Medical Centre and other community stakeholders.
A major component of the campaign is the partnership with TBS Radio, which will use radio talk shows, school debates, public service announcements and live broadcasts to reach millions of people across Teso and Eastern Uganda.
The campaign will cover several districts, including Serere, Soroti, Kaberamaido, Kalaki, Kumi, Ngora, Amuria, Katakwi and Bukedea, among others. The programme also includes health outreach activities such as eye screening and community visits.
The campaign will culminate in a grand showcase bringing together representatives from 30 schools with established Drug-Free World Clubs, providing an opportunity to celebrate achievements, share experiences and encourage more schools and communities to join the movement.
The initiative reinforces AIDO’s commitment to protecting young people from drug and substance abuse while promoting healthier, safer and more productive communities across the region.
