AIDO Network International has called for stronger ties between Africa and the Caribbean, emphasising the importance of shared history, ancestry, culture and identity in strengthening relations between the two regions.

The call was made by His Highness Dr. Paul Jones Eganda, Founder and President of AIDO Network International, during his keynote address at the Third CARICOM Regional Conference on Reparations in Barbados. The conference brought together diplomats, government representatives, academics, civil society leaders and other stakeholders from across the Caribbean and beyond.

In his address, titled “An Ubuntu Call from Africa to the Caribbean,” Dr. Eganda highlighted the African philosophy of Ubuntu and its emphasis on community, shared identity and togetherness. He noted that although historical events separated African families and communities across the Atlantic, their ancestral and cultural connections remain.

He further emphasised that reparations should extend beyond financial compensation to include the restoration of dignity, identity, culture and relationships between Africa and the Caribbean. He also called for stronger partnerships among governments, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, scholars and the wider African diaspora.

The conference also featured discussions on reparatory justice and the CARICOM Ten-Point Plan for Reparatory Justice, alongside cultural performances and messages of international solidarity.

AIDO’s participation reflects its continued work in African heritage, cultural diplomacy, diaspora reconnection and reparatory justice, while promoting stronger historical and cultural links between Africa and the Caribbean.
