Kampala, Uganda – May 26, 2025

In a remarkable demonstration of cultural unity and global African solidarity, the Aido Network International (AIDO) led a distinguished royal delegation to Uganda on May 25th, 2025, to commemorate Pan-African Day and African Liberation Day. The event united royalty, traditional leaders, Diplomatic missions and Pan-Africanists from across Africa and the diaspora to honour Africa legacy of liberation and to envision a collective future rooted in justice and reconnection.

Queen Mother Dr. Myrna Belgrave Acom V of Barbados, a member of AIDO’s Board of Trustees, served as the Chief Guest and delivered an inspiring keynote address to the people of Uganda. Her speech delved into the origins of Pan-Africanism, paid tribute to the visionary contributions of pioneers like Marcus Garvey, Kwame Nkrumah and called for renewed dedication to reparative justice and the strengthening of ties between Africa and its global diaspora.

“Our liberation is incomplete without reconnection. Africa and its descendants must reclaim their dignity, restore their cultures, and rise together,” Queen Mother Dr. Myrna Belgrave declared to an engaged audience in Kampala.

The AIDO delegation comprised 22 royals and dignitaries from Nigeria, Kenya, the United Kingdom, Barbados, Germany, Jamaica, Ghana, Costa Rica and South Africa, reflecting a diverse representation of traditional leadership and diasporic influence. Their attendance highlighted AIDO’s dedication to fostering connections between ancestral homelands and diaspora communities.

These celebrations were part of a broader tour of duty in Uganda, where the delegation engaged in cultural diplomacy, community outreach, and high-level discussions on indigenous leadership and global African solidarity.

The events were organized in collaboration with the Pan-African Federalist Movement – Uganda Chapter, under the commendable leadership of Ms. Amanda Magambo and Mr. Bob Drabinjima, whose exceptional coordination was instrumental to the program’s success. AIDO Director of Culture and Heritage, Princess Filda Braun Lolem, together with the AIDO Team East Africa, led by Queen Mother Millicent Odhiambo and Lady Evelyn Imede, spearheaded the Ugandan operations.
AIDO expresses sincere appreciation to the Government of Uganda, including the Office of the President, the Ministry of Defence, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, for officially welcoming the delegation and offering vital logistical and security support.

Special recognition was also given to Uganda’s traditional kingdoms, for their active participation and cultural contributions. Their engagement underscored the significance of traditional institutions in shaping the narrative of African unity and self-determination.

AIDO’s presence in Uganda marked another chapter in its global campaign to advance cultural heritage, indigenous governance, and unity among African peoples worldwide. Through celebrations like these, AIDO continues to demonstrate how traditional leadership can be a force for positive change, inclusion, and empowerment across generations and borders.

As Queen Mother Myrna Belgrave reminded all present, the path to true liberation lies not just in remembering the past, but in actively reclaiming the future together.
