A high-level delegation from Aido Network International (AIDO) has commended the Uganda High Commission in London for its exceptional diplomatic service and efforts in promoting Uganda’s global image. During a recent visit to Uganda House, Trafalgar Square, AIDO delegation engaged in discussions with diplomatic staff on strengthening investment opportunities, enhancing the business climate, and deepening ties with the African diaspora.
Led by His Highness Papa Paul Jones Eganda I, Global President of AIDO, the delegation included Her Highness Queen Grace Eganda, Secretary General of AIDO; Engineer Teddy Curran, Head of Protocol and Ubuntu; Her Excellency Dr. Angela Soong,UN Peace Ambassador and real estate investor in the UK ; Ms. Nicola Garrington, Modern day slavery advocate; Dr. Niculai Vintila, business man and construction consultant; Dr. Irene Ching, a consultant in renewable energy technology; and Mairam (Princess) Gedule Machinaye. The AIDO delegation was warmly welcomed by the diplomatic senior staff led by Counsellor Miriam Otengo.
During the discussions, AIDO praised the High Commission’s commitment to fostering strong relationships with Ugandans abroad, international investors, and diplomatic partners. The delegation acknowledged the improvements in public engagement and efficiency, noting that the mission has become a model of proactive and effective diplomacy.
Beyond commending the High Commission’s work, AIDO emphasised the urgent need for Uganda to position itself as a more attractive destination for business and investment, particularly for the African diaspora. The delegation urged the Ugandan government to introduce policies that make it easier for Africans in the diaspora to return, invest, and contribute to the country’s development. Key recommendations included relaxing immigration policies, providing incentives such as tax breaks and streamlined business registration, and launching a dedicated program to welcome the historical African diaspora home (Uganda).
AIDO stressed that Uganda has a unique opportunity to benefit from increased engagement with Africans in the Americas, the Caribbean, and other parts of the world. By creating an enabling environment, Uganda could tap into a highly skilled and resourceful diaspora eager to invest in tourism, trade, and infrastructure.
One of the key sectors highlighted was community-based tourism, which AIDO is actively promoting as a way to boost household incomes and preserve cultural heritage. Working closely with Uganda cultural and traditional leaders, AIDO is developing initiatives that showcase Uganda’s rich history while creating economic opportunities for local communities. The organisation believes that sustainable tourism can serve as a powerful tool for economic empowerment, helping communities thrive while attracting visitors interested in authentic African cultural experiences.
As part of its commitment to deepening engagement with Uganda, AIDO is preparing for a high-profile visit to the country in May 2025. The tour will include meetings with cultural leaders, government officials, and development partners to explore opportunities for collaboration. The delegation sought assurances from the High Commission regarding security and stability for such engagements, to which Ms. Otengo reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for international visitors and investors.
AIDO’s visit to the High Commission comes at a time when Africa is witnessing renewed interest in reconnecting with its diaspora. The discussions reinforced the importance of creating policies that encourage investment, cultural exchange, and economic participation from Africans across the world. With Uganda increasingly positioning itself as a key player in the global African movement, the call for stronger diaspora engagement and a more attractive business environment is more relevant than ever.
As Uganda looks to the future, AIDO remains committed to fostering meaningful partnerships that drive economic growth, cultural preservation, Human rights and African unity. The organisation’s ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between Africa and its diaspora reflect a growing movement that seeks to harness the collective strength of Africans worldwide for a shared and prosperous future.
